Counterfiet iPods, really now?

What has the world come too? Fake iPods, iPhones, and iPod touches that were brought in from Asia have been sold and bought around the CES this past year. Police from the port of os Angeles have seized over $10 million worth of counterfeit Apple device from a warehouse. Many sellers have been selling them around certain parts of California, but the police are not sure how much further they have gone. Many customers have bought these fake iPod’s for cheap, but not cheap enough to raise awareness about them. Cops have reported that they have found receipts along with other stolen and counterfeit items bringing in about $7 million in profit. Customers have said that these iPod’s look extremely real until you turn on the screen. Customers have been allowed to touch and feel the product, but were not allowed to turn the product on. I would think that if you can’t turn the product on, wouldn’t you be suspicious?

So far, two brothers have been arrested, and the two of them face total of four felony counts for the sale of counterfeit goods. The seizure was a result of an ongoing stolen cargo investigation that has been going on around Los Angeles and Vernon, CA late last year. I would think that there are many other sellers out there that are selling more counterfeit products. Apple has been a huge success, but with success comes fake products and people that take advantage of the poor economy. Not that many people can afford a $200 piece of technology these days. Whenever they find the product for a really good deal, of course they are going to jump on the opportunity. I don’t blame them either; I would want an iPod touch really badly after seeing many people on busses playing with them. How far would people really go in order to make money? Is it really worth it to make these counterfeit items, but also knowing that at any moment, you can get caught? Let us know, drop a comment below.

Which iOS features should be on the Mac OS X?

Which iOS features would you want on your Mac? Touch screen definitely sounds like a fun feature for the Mac. Wouldn’t it be cool to change your Mac into a touch screen like an iPhone and change it back? There are rumors that Apple is planning to make an iMac with a screen that pivots into a horizontal touch mode. It sounds like it will be a combination of a Mac and an iPad. It sounds like they should call it a MacBook touch or something like that. Combining the features of both would be really cool because the touch screen is what attracts many users to iOS devices. There are also many other features that would be great for Mac OS X.

Virtual iPhone dashboard widgets could be a possible feature for Mac OS X. Your Mac would have a screen that looks similar to an iPhones, with wallpaper, apps, and etc. It would be easy to organize your programs and it would make use of all the free space on your desktop. When you look at your Mac desktop, it looks very empty and spacious, but your iOS devices have different pages of apps. Some may prefer to have this feature offered on their Mac. It should be an optional feature.

What else does your iOS device do that your Mac doesn’t? Your iOS device has the option to alert you automatically if you receive an email, even if your device is on sleep mode. Wouldn’t it be smart to give that feature to your Mac? The idea of having your Mac alert you that you have received a new email while the Mac is on sleep mode is fairly simple. Apple should definitely allow people to use that feature and for those that don’t want to, turn it off.

Have you ever noticed that when you play music off your iPod touch or your iPhone, it is simple and organized, but when you play music off iTunes, it can look pretty cluttered? Don’t you think it is time that Apple made an iPod app or Music app on your computer that may be simpler and more organized then your iTunes? I think so. Also, my iTunes can be really slow, so I think having an iPod app might help.

When you are outside, you take out your iPhone and can surf the internet from wherever if you have 3G, right? If you are lost, you can just check your GPS on your iPhone too and find directions. There are many people that also take their MacBook everywhere, so shouldn’t they have the same features as an iPhone? Should there be 3G for the MacBook? I think that 3G should be made available for MacBook users, especially when it is made available for the iPad.

Another feature that iOS devices have is that many iOS apps have notifications that are provided by third-party software. It notifies you if there is new information and other important news. Apple should definitely provide a feature that provides notifications for your apps on your Mac too.

When you go on an airplane, you can click Airplane Mode on your iOS device. But can your Mac do that? Not that I know of. If Apple adds that feature, that will be really helpful to those that travel a lot with their MacBooks. You should definitely add that feature on so people don’t have to manually turn off Wi-Fi and Bluetooth separately.

Your iOS device has iBooks and Game Center, but your Mac still doesn’t have either of them. It is about time that Apple provides iBooks as a feature. If I wanted to read a book on my Mac, rather then my small iPhone, I would really want that feature. Game Center should also be a feature for Mac OS X. People get pretty competitive with gaming on the iPhone and iPod touch. It’s time for the competition to get started on the Mac.

All and all, I figure that Mac OS X definitely needs an upgrade. Why does iOS have so many features that Mac OS X doesn’t have? It’s not because it isn’t useful on the Mac, so it’s probably about time for Apple to improve Mac OS X. Once Mac OS X gets more features such as an iPod app and touch screen, I can’t wait to use my Mac.

iPhone 5Gs?

With WWDC 2011 around the corner, and the anniversary of the apple iPad announcement, we wonder what new and improved gadgets apple will bring to the table. Apple usually is always one step ahead of the competition, with “revolutions”. Last summer Apple’s greatest threat was the HTC Evo 4G. And till today, it is one of the most featured phones on the market. So what can we expect from apple this summer?

For starters, perhaps a white iPhone that is released ON TIME. Many of us think, what can apple possibly lack? Well there are probably gonna need a better camera. Many of the competitors have 8+ mega pixel camera’s. Apple told us that they were keeping the pixels the same size, capturing photons with a backside illuminated sensor. The pictures are quite well for a smart phone of it’s size, but an 8 mega-pixel or something close, is coming next. They have finally included a LED flash, but how about a Dual LED flash, with a dedicated flashlight app. Along with pictures comes video. Apple brought 720p to their phone, if they want to be on top of the game, how about some 1080p.

Now speaking of some great entertainment, I cannot see apple using a kickstand in their design, for they are all about flawless looks. Obviously we see it with the glass covering the front and back of the phone and it is a great protector for most scenarios. One of the newest things out there is gorilla glass, and with that on the iPhone, it will be very durable without any case. Next up could be a bigger screen. Now I’m not sure how they will do it, but rumors are going around about removing the home button… They say that the next iOS update will be able to return to the home screen, by bringing 5 fingers together. Currently that would be tricky but perhaps with a bigger screen it might be possible. But just where could they expand it? My guess is vertically to fill up some extra space, because they wouldn’t be able to grow horizontally, frankly because, no one wants a huge phone. The iPhone is a great sized phone on the market today, and I’m sure all of us wouldn’t want it any other way. Also with a bigger screen, apps would need to be modified, and a inch would probably optimize the whole OS.

Finally, by the far the biggest jump apple needs to make, is the switch to 4G. I have no doubt in my mind that the next iPhone will be “the biggest revolution in iPhone history” coming into the 4G market. With 4G in the picture, we will probably be able to FaceTime without Wi-Fi. And perhaps this is the fix to Verizon’s voice and data problem. Obviously these are just rumors and thoughts, because we all know that apple is very secret with their products. But our conclusions here at The Real Mac Genius is that the next iPhone will be known as the iPhone 4G.
Bottom Line New Features:

    • More mega-pixels in camera
    • Dual LED flash
    • new design
    • Bigger screen
    • 4G!

Apple & Android Covering Smartphone Ground

You probably all noticed that when you use your apps, there might be ads somewhere on the side. There are many ad companies that are trying to take advantage of all the apps available to smart phones. Global mobile ad network InMobi is making a big step to gain smartphone ad share. Last year in June, InMobi offered a $2 million dollar promotion for Apple and Android mobile app developers. How did it work? Usually InMobi keeps 40% of the advertising revenue, while the developer takes 60%, but during the promotion, the developer takes 100% of the advertising revenue. That encouraged people to sign up. By October 2010, InMobi was serving up 5.8 billion ad impressions on smart phones. The iPhone holds the largest amount of ad impressions for any single device out their. InMobi has also stated that in December, Android surpassed iPhone OS in holding the largest amount of ad impressions.

Google also purchased AdMob last year. With mobile advertising greatly increasing, Google wants to take advantage of all the different apps that publishers and developers make. Mobile advertising plays an important role in the marketing force. Apple at first did not allow any third-party mobile advertisers on its iAds mobile advertising platform, but it changed its agreement to allow third-party ad publishers.

Another big factor in the amount of mobile ad impressions on Apple and Android smart phone devices is the amount of activation claims. There are sources that say that there is a 2.5 to 1 ratio of Apple iPhone sales to Verizon Droid sales, but than again, there are also many other Android devices on other carriers. With the iPhone 4 becoming available at Verizon on February 10, 2011, I think iPhone 4 activation claims will increase and the iPhone 4 will definitely increase in mobile ad impressions. Ad companies should definitely keep an eye on the iPhone 4.

How To: Make Your Login Speed Faster

Does your computer take forever to load up? Well I have two easy tips that will make you login into your Mac faster. The first way is to make sure that you do not have any applications open automatically at login. You can check this by going into “System Preferences,” then go to accounts, and click on the “Login Items” button. To stop your apps from opening at login you have to select each one and click the minus button on the bottom. Note that just clicking the box on the side does not stop it from opening at login, but it hides it at login, and that does not affect the speed of login. Another way to make your Mac’s login speed faster is to make sure that you do not have any servers, external hardrives, or memory sticks connected to you computer because it will have to load those at login. It’s as easy as that to make your login speed faster.

Let us know how this worked for you.
