Apple’s new books, we love our developers

Apple is giving Christmas presents early for Mac and iOS developers. These eBooks are available in the iBookstore which is free when you download it through your iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad. Apple is giving out six free development books on Mac OS X and iOS development. The books have just come out on the iBook application as of December 17, 2010. These books aren’t new, but they haven’t been available in the iBookstore. You can still download them in a PDF version at developer.apple.com. Many developers have already started on the PDF version, but it is handier to carry around the version in the iBookstore. You can read it anywhere you are such as riding a bus, at the coffee shop, or just for fun at home.

The six titles that are available are: Cocoa Fundamental’s Guide, The Objective-C Programming Language, iOS Application Programming Guide, Object Oriented Programming With Objective-C, iOS Technology Overview, and iOS Human Interface Guidelines. Many international developers have said that they can’t see that some books in the iBookstore. Apple has concentrated on getting more developers to make new games. Apple shows that they do care about their developers and by giving them free books, it shows that they want their App Store to continue to grow. Apple has been a dominate figure for developers because apps have been a huge success with Apple. Without developers, there wouldn’t be any handy devices or fun games. I know for a fact I wouldn’t be able to live without my games.

The Mac mini may look small, but it has so many different features and programs. You can do so much with something so small and it is very compact so it uses less space. Info on the iOS 4.2 update

Apple has a reputation for releasing huge amounts of information at once, and they certainly didn’t let us down this time. Apple has just announced about a dozen new software improvements for Apple portable devices. Well, I should be more specific than that. Apple states that the iOS 4.2 is compatible with these following devices:

-iPhone 3G

-iPhone 3GS

-iPhone 4

-iPod touch second generation

-iPod touch third generation

-iPod touch fourth generation

-and of course the iPad

These updates range anywhere from tracking your device to making your personal notes in different fonts. Obviously, some are more sought after than others, and a full list and description of each update can be found online in http://www.apple.com/ios/. However, it is still great that Apple gave us these new updates for a number of reasons.

  1. Hey, it is free. Who can really complain about that?
  2. It is easy to access. All you have to do is sync your device with the computer.
  3. You can do more. Sure, it didn’t completely change the experience of owning one of these devices, but it certainly allows you to do more. Never before could I wirelessly stream off of my Apple devices onto my TV at home, or even wirelessly print off of my device. These are great improvements and should be noted as such.

What is Game Center?

Game Center lets people play games against other people. In multiplayer games, you can play against people from all around the world. The Game Center app lets you expand your social gaming network. You need at least iOS 4.1 for iPhone and iPod touch users and you need iOS 4.2 for iPad users. Just tap the Game Center app, log in with your Apple ID, and you are ready to play. You create a Game Center nickname to help friends find you easier and once you are logged into Game Center, you’re always connected unless you decide to log out. You can look at the list of games supported by Game Center and you can launch it directly from Game Center. You also have the option to click the button “Find Game Center Games”, which takes you directly to the App Store and it shows you a list of games supported by Game Center. You can also add friends and when they accept your friend request, they are added directly to your friends list. You can view your list of friends and see your friend’s status and last Game Center game played. You can also view the leaderboards and achievements of your friends and compare. Auto-match also helps you find your friends if they are also looking for an auto-match, otherwise it will set you up with someone else from around the world.

Game Center is a very useful app. You can prove to your friend that you are better at Fruit Ninja than they are. You can compare your achievements and see who the more superior gamer is. Games are much more fun when you play with others and Game Center makes that possible. Take advantage of Game Center and beat your friends. Don’t let them beat you!
