What’s better then beating the Android phones? Apple certainly has dominated the Smartphone industry and crushed their opponent’s. Apple’s name itself can beat any other company, but the iPhone’s haven’t had the best reviews written about them in a while. Many critics give harsh reviews about the iPhone, but when it comes down to it, it doesn’t matter about the critics. The critics don’t sell the phone itself and there are millions of more customers then a couple of reviewers. Apple knows how to market the iPhone better then the Android people do, that’s the bottom line. You think I’m lying? Take a look at these charts:

Verizon iPad 3G Connectivity Problem
What’s up with the iPad 2? A great piece of technology, but it seems to be experiencing one of its greatest necessities, the 3G part. Since the beginning of April, users have been experiencing an issue with the connectivity with the Verizon iPad 2. When a user turns off their iPad and turns it back on, the user tends to lose their 3G connectivity. They then have to reboot their whole iPad in order for it to find the 3G again. We all know it is a big hassle to reboot our iPad’s because it does take some time for the iPad to start up again. There is a solution to this problem: 1) Turn the cellular data switch on. 2) Power off your iPad. 3) Power on your iPad. 4) Turn on cellular data. 5) The Verizon connectivity should work again. Many users still experience the same problem even if they follow these steps. Rebooting your iPad 2 is the best solution until Apple finds a fix for this problem. Apple has acknowledged this problem and is working hard to fix this. In the new iOS 4.3.2 update, the solution should be in the update. In the mean time, keep rebooting your iPad 2 until you get connect back to the 3G. There doesn’t seem to be a solution to this problem just yet. This problem doesn’t seem to affect the Wi-Fi connectivity or AT&T’s 3G network.
What if one of the most anticipated features for the iPad 2 was a small switch? The small switch is on the new iOS 4.3 which re-enables the iPad orientation lock switch, which was temporarily turned into a mute switch in a previous iOS update. In the newest iPad update, it now lets you choose whether to have the side switch function as a rotation lock or as a mute button. Here are the steps to switch between the rotation lock and mute.
- Tap on “Settings”
- Scroll to and tap on “General”
- Scroll down and look for “Use Side Switch to:” and tap on “Lock Rotation”
- Exit settings by clicking the home button and you are done
In this picture, you can tell that we have switched the rotation lock on instead of the mute button:
If you’re wondering to why anybody would care about this, here’s some background information. Apple changed the rotation lock to be a software feature in the previous iOS. This caused the mute button to turn into the side switch. Many people were actually mad at this because it use to be very convenient to just turn the lock on without any hassle. Apple listened to the people and gave us the choice to turn the side switch into a rotation lock or mute button. How nice of Apple to make this change, if you think this is useful, let us know. Drop a comment and tell us if this affects you or if you think this matters at all.
iPad 2 Zooms by the Motorola Xoom
How fast is the iPad 2? How about adding a dual core A5 chip and 9 times the graphic speed. When you’re flipping through your pages on the home screen, you will notice the changes. The faster graphics make games smoother and more realistic. Certain games with video will show a smoother transition and not as sluggish you could say. The A5 dual core will do two times the work at once. While your multitasking to get to your applications faster or watching a movie, your whole iPad will seem like it’s hyped up on steroids. Everything just works faster and better with dual core. The new iPad two went face to face with the Motorola Xoom, and let’s just say it wasn’t a fair battle.
The iPad 2 and Xoom both share a dual core chip, but nothing can compete with the A5 chip, especially the Android powered chip. Our friends at AnandTech ran some benchmark speed tests, and it completely tore the Xoom apart. The iPad 2 beat the Xoom by almost 3.7 times faster. It also topped the original iPad by 5.4 times faster by framerate. With the faster speed of the new iPad 2, the developers will be able to create better apps that offer better graphics and faster performance. I think that the Xoom will never be as fast as the iPad because of who it’s built by. Apple’s A5 chip is the new best thing, but this certain chip will always be fast and will tear apart the competition.
The new iPad 2 is a different type of tablet and also has new technology then the original iPad has. It comes with the dual core A5 chip and 9 times the graphic speed which I talked about before. It kept the same 10 hour battery life which to me is astonishing considering the fact that the iPad is technically doing twice the work then the original iPad. The new iPad 2 also has the three-axis gyroscope which is really cool. You get to see apps in a different way, and it may also seem like it’s more realistic. The iPad 2 has the new Smart Covers which make the iPad look more colorful. The Smart Covers are a magnetic attraction for the iPad 2. The iPad 2 it self has built in magnets that align perfectly with the Smart Covers. The Smart Cover can fold backwards so that you can turn it into a keyboard stand or a FaceTime/video stand. The Smart Cover comes in two textures, Polyurethane and Leather.
Zoom! Zoom! MacBook Pro
It’s off to the races. Talk about fast, the new MacBook Pro’s are coming in at blazing speeds. To put this is an understatement for sure. The new top of the line MacBook Pro 2011 is faster than the existing Mac Pro desktop. Basically, the ‘low-end’ base MacBook Pro 2011 13” is just as fast as last years top-end MacBook Pro models. The MacBook Pro 13” with Intel Core i5-2415M 2.3 GHz (2cores), which is the “slowest 2011 MacBook Pro’ is almost as fast as the last years fastest MacBook Pro. Osxdaily.com put together some benchmark speed tests and it shows that the new MacBook Pros’ are extremely fast. Some of the new Mac Book Pros’ are almost 3x’s faster then last years models. That is an incredible feat by Apple. Some companies make their computers maybe just double their speed. Sometimes companies just focus on the looks of the computer. Not Apple though, they focus on what really matters. A computer is good until it starts to become slow. Apple’s new MacBook Pros’ are faster then many computers out on the market. There are only so many things you can actually do to a computer until you can’t do anymore. Apple hasn’t changed the design, granted that it looks extremely good so it is probably unnecessary to change the outerwear, but they have definitely changed the inside. Isn’t that what matters though? The outside appearance is only good until you figure out what’s on the inside.
Last year’s version of the MacBook Pro 13” with 8GB RAM and a 2.4GHz Core 2 duo got a score of 3128. The new MacBook Pro 13” in 2011 with Intel Core i7-2620M 2.7 GHz (2 cores) got a benchmark score of 6796. That’s double the speed in one year. From what I can tell, that’s a pretty decent score in just a matter of time. The fastest MacBook Pro is the 17” model with Intel Core i7-2820QM 2.3 GHz (4 cores) with a score of 10164. That is extremely fast and it triples the speed from the previous MacBook Pro. I’m still rather curious about the MacBook Pro and if it is actually faster then a Mac Pro desktop. Osxdaily.com says that the MacBook Pro’s are, but until I see some tests, I don’t really believe that. The Mac Pro’s are extremely fast and I definitely say that as an understatement. No other desktop can even compete with the type of speeds that the Mac Pro pushes out. Put all the crazy fast technology, all the talk about Intels SandyBridge chips being blazing fast, and it is all true. If you didn’t buy a MacBook Pro last year, or you just want to upgrade, I would definitely buy the new MacBook Pros’. Tell us what you think about these new MacBook Pro models.
