What’s inside the iPhone 4S?

After the launch, on October 14, many people now have the iPhone 4S. What’s inside the iPhone 4S? Well, for starters, the iPhone 4S has a major performance upgrade with the Dual-core A5 chip, instead of the A4 chip used in the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4S now has Siri as a built-in assistant and a 8 megapixel camera. It also records video with 1080p 30 fps (frames per second). It uses Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n and now uses Bluetooth 4.0.

iFixit decided to disassemble the iPhone 4S and take a closer look to what’s inside the iPhone 4S. With a first look, they noted that the SIM card slot is back. After having a deeper look, they find that the iPhone 4S’ battery has an extra .05 WHrs comapred to the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4S has an extra hour of talk time compared to the iPhone 4 on the 3G network. The iPhone 4S has the same amount of talk time in the 2G network,  but 100 hours less of standby time, most likely because of the Dual-Core A5 chip consumes more energy.

For a more in-depth look into what’s exactly inside the iPhone 4S, check out iFixit’s iPhone 4S Teardown.

How to: Change the Scrolling Direction in Lion

In Mac OS X Lion, you may notice that when you scroll up or down, using two fingers on the trackpad, the content of the page scrolls up or down, instead of the window around the content. Mac OS X Lion adopted the iOS approach to scrolling, so if you move your fingers up, the page is moved up. In many cases, this is more convenient and more natural, but for some, they may prefer the old way of scrolling instead. I will break down the process of how to change the scrolling. If you are not using a trackpad or Magic Mouse, go to the Mouse options and uncheck “Move content in the direction of finger movement when scrolling and navigating”. If you are using a trackpad or Magic Mouse, here is how to do it.

First, click on on the Apple logo on the top left of your screen.

Second, click in System Preferences…

Third, click Trackpad

Fourth, click Scroll & Zoom and uncheck the Scroll direction: natural

There you go. You are now free to scroll however you like.
Feel free to leave comments and suggestions on which way of scrolling you prefer.

One in six Macs run the new Mac OS X Lion

On September 01, 2011, Net Applications stated that Mac OS X 10.7, Lion, accounts for 1% of all desktop operating. This is based on desktops that connect to the Internet. Mac OS X accounts for 6% of all desktop operating systems connected to the Internet within the last month. Mac OS X Lion was released on July 20th. Lion is very close to Leopard’s usage. Approximately 1.2% of all desktop operating systems being used on the internet are Mac OS X 10.5, Leopard. Mac OS X 10.6, Snow Leopard, is still the most commonly used Apple desktop operating system. 3.5% of all desktop operating systems being used are Mac OS X 10.6. Users are starting to migrate to Lion ever since its release. Based on all this information, 6% of all desktop operating systems are running Mac OS X. This means that Lion accounts of 1 out of 6 Macs.

As Lion gains popularity, more people will migrate from Snow Leopard and older Mac operating systems to Lion. I think that 1 out of 6 Macs running Lion is a big step forward, since it has only been one and a half months since its release. Do you think Lion is a good improvement for Mac OS X? Is it worth the $29.99 to you? Feel free to leave comments or suggestions and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

iPhone 5 in October

Many people have been waiting to see if the iPhone 4S or iPhone 5 is coming out soon or not. There have been rumors that it’s going to be the iPhone 4S coming out this fall and that the iPhone 5 will come out in January 2012. But based on the recent news from BGR, the iPhone 5 will launch in early October. BGR has gotten information from one of their sources that the AT&T Vice President has told managers: “Expect things to get really, really busy in the next 35-50 days, so prepare your teams accordingly.” The iPhone 5 is expected to have an 8-Megapixel camera with full HD 1080p. It will also feature a 4-inch screen, new antenna location, and it will be only 0.28 inch thick. It may also have a dual core processor. Some speculate a 3D screen. There are also rumors that they will be equipped with NFC chips.

When it comes to U.S. phone carriers, we already know that Verizon Wireless and AT&T will sell the iPhone 5, but what is new is that Sprint and T-Mobile are said to also start selling the iPhone. If Sprint and T-Mobile do sell the iPhone, expect to see their data usage prices go up. Ever since Verizon has been selling the iPhone, they don’t give unlimited data anymore. On a recent article called AT&T to Throttle Unlimited Data, companies are throttling data usage. Companies are starting to not give unlimited anymore. Watch for Sprint and T-Mobile to stop selling unlimited data once the iPhone 5 comes to them. Sprint doesn’t have a top competitor smartphone like the iPhone, so it doesn’t have to worry about the data usage as much as AT&T or Verizon. Apple becomes top smartphone seller, while competitor Samsung continues to gain traction

Based on the IDC, Apple is the top worldwide smartphone vendor with approximately 20.3 million units sold. Samsung, selling an estimated 17.3 million units, came in second place. Following behind Samsung is Nokia, Research in Motion, and HTC. The most eye-catching part of the quarterly report is the year to year growth. Compared to other smartphones, Samsung has the largest year to year growth of 380.6%. Apple’s year to year change in sales grew 141%. The reason of Samsung’s increasing popularity compared to Apple is that Apple only sells just the iPhone, while Samsung sells different smartphone models. Apple’s iPhone has iOS, while Samsung’s smartphones has Android, Bada, or Windows Phone 7. It appears that Apple and Samsung are going to continue to be tough competitors for the top spot.
